Did you know that it is possible to have a wood floor in your home without cutting down a single tree?
With cork as a flooring option this is possible. Cork flooring and other cork related products do not require the harvesting of a tree in the same manner that solid or engineered hardwood and other building materials do.
Cork comes from the bark of the Cork Oak tree which is primarily found along the coast of the Mediterranean, from Portugal all the way around to the north coast of Africa.
When the tree is about 25 years old the bark is peeled off in large strips and it can he harvested in the same manner every 9 years thereafter. This does not damage the tree.
The benefits of cork as a flooring option is that it provides great sound dampening, has insulating qualities, is fire, water and mildew resistant and provides a softer walking surface for high traffic areas or where you may be required to stand for long periods of time.
